Ghana International School
was founded in Riyadh in 1995, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, license no. 59/C (British Curriculum).
Library
The School has a well-stocked purpose built library with books that facilitate and encourage reading and research.
There is a collection of videos audio cassettes, CD-Rooms, periodicals and news papers to support the curriculum
Sports
The school encourage students to participate in sports and social activities to increase their confidence, mental alertness and self esteem.
It also provides both indoor and outdoor activities such as scrabble, chess, ball sports, strength and agility sports.
Students are engaged in social activities such as traditional day and interesting field trips
Computer Laboratory
The School has a computer lab equipped with 45 computers in the lab. Each pupil has access to a computer during lessons. The computer lab has internet access making it easier for pupils to work on various projects. The lab is equipped with an interactive Projector and is opened to pupils from 6.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

School Principal
Ghana International School provides a peaceful multinational environment for the education of children. This is because there is a cordial relationship between, the staff, parents, students and the Education Officers of the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia.
The School children come from different countries including, Ghana, Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Chad, Yemen, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Philippines’. The teaching and the non- teaching staff members are also from different nationalities: Ghana, Sudan, Egypt, Eritrea, Palestine and Philippine and Syrian. And others expected soon.
The school follows a curriculum closely modeled on the British National Curriculum and the subjects presently taught are; English Language, Arabic Language, French, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Computer Studies, Art, Economics, Social Studies, Islamic Studies, Physical Education, Saudi History and Culture.
We are very grateful to the Board of Directors for its continuous support and co-operation to maintain the aims and the objectives of Ghana International School. The School has adequate facilities for Reception 1 to Grade 10 and prepares students to write the International General Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations conducted by the University of Cambridge International Examinations Syndicate.

Library
The school has a well-stocked purpose built library with almost 20,000 volumes comprising fiction and non-fiction with a strong emphasis on social studies and the sciences. There are also 388 CD-ROMS, 416 videos, 50 audio cassettes, periodicals for both pupils and teachers, and newspapers.
All classes have one library period a week in which they are taught library skills. These include borrowing procedures and the use of catalogues and reference volumes and fun activities to stimulate the pupils’ interest in using the library.
Children can borrow three books at a time and up to four over weekends. Books must be returned or renewed within one week. In addition to their weekly library period, children have access to the library before school starts, at break time and after school hours up to 2:30 p.m.
The fine for losing or damaging a library book is the same as that for losing a textbook, SAR 120 or $30.
Higher SCHOOL
The stock of approximately 10,000 books is arranged to facilitate and encourage reading, borrowing and research. As well as books, there is a collection of several hundred videos, audio cassettes and CD-ROMs to support the curriculum. The school also subscribes to over 50 periodicals, foreign and local newspapers. Study skills classes are offered to all students to promote reading and the development of research. The library is intended for quiet work. Students are expected to observe this and to take care of any resources that they use. We welcome suggestions for new additions. The library is computerised for reference and circulation.
Computer Laboratory
The School has a computer lab equipped with 45 computers in the lab. Each pupil has access to a computer during lessons. The computer lab has internet access making it easier for pupils to work on various projects. The lab is equipped with an interactive Projector and is opened to pupils from 6.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
The school has a computer laboratory for use by students, equipped with 45 PCs that are fully multi-media. The Computer Laboratory is use by students from Grades 1 to 10. Other subjects may use the laboratories to enhance teaching. There are scheduled times for general use. Students using the laboratory are expected to obey all rules laid down by the Computer Science department when using the facilities. Staff members have access to facilitate their work as well.
Air Conditioners
All classrooms are fully air-conditioned.
Big Yard
The School yard is used for physical education activities and for assemblies. It is also used for plays and other school events.
There are play areas for students to play during their break times.
There is a Basketball Court located on school campus. The area is used to play Basketball and other sporting activities.
Canteen
There is a variety of food and snacks sold at the canteen by private individuals under the school’s supervision. All sellers undergo annual medical check-ups and are required to maintain proper health standards. The School Nurse carries out regular inspections of the canteen. Pupils are expected to help maintain standards by putting litter in the bins provided and generally keeping the premises tidy. Monies may be kept with the class teacher or assistant. Pupils can purchase breakfast foods in the morning prior to the start of school.
Children are advised to bring enough water to school. Water available in drinking fountains is filtered but not boiled.
Sick Bay
The sick bay is located between Primary and Secondary building. Only first aid and analgesics are given. Parents strongly advised not to send children to school if they are feeling unwell and especially if they show signs of infectious diseases like chicken pox, mumps or eye infections.
After an infectious illness children must bring a medical clearance certificate and will not be allowed to attend classes until they do so. Parents are notified as soon as possible in an emergency.
A registered nurse manages the sick bay and takes care of all the children in the Primary School.
She also inspects the food-handling practices of the food sellers and is in charge of health and sex education.
School Transport
The school has 22 buses.
These vehicles are used for taking children on trips and during Final Examinations to and from the Exam Center. Qualified drivers handle the vehicles and students are insured.
Science Laboratories
There are three science laboratories – Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students using the laboratories are expected to take good care of the equipment and to refrain from any actions that might be considered dangerous. Students will have to pay for any breakage that they cause. They may enter the laboratories only when a teacher is present.
Sporting Facilities
The school has facilities for soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball and track and field events. During normal lessons these are used for PE and on designated afternoons for games. Students may sign out equipment from PE teachers during break and after school provided they look after and return it.
